Crystal Y. Sanford, M.Ed, M.A. CCC-SLP, ASDCS
Owner/Director/Speech-Language Pathologist/Lead Advocate
In 1998, Crystal began working as a Speech Therapist in the public school setting in Los Angeles County, California. In 2004, she moved to San Diego, California and continued her work with children of all ages in public schools. Her areas of experience include social language disorders, language/articulation disorders as well as communication assessments and support for autistic individuals. She has also enjoyed her leadership experiences in the field, such as mentoring Speech-Language Pathologists who are beginning their careers.
Throughout the years, Crystal has found her work with autistic clients to be the most rewarding. She found it so gratifying to see students who have struggled to communicate their ideas or have struggled to maintain friendships find success and hope.
In 2014, Crystal became acquainted with Autism in a new way when her daughter was identified as autistic. For her family, this identification brought relief and helped to confirm their suspicions. The family then embarked on their own Autism journey. Because of her work experience in the public school system, Crystal was able to navigate the waters of special education with minimal challenge. However, she began to realize how little support was offered and available to families throughout the IEP process. In 2016, Crystal was inspired to open the Sanford Autism Advocacy Group (SAAG), a place where other Autism parents could find clarity, support, and HOPE for their IEP journey. She now supports all IEP stakeholders (families, schools, community members). Let Crystal and her team assist you as your Autism and IEP Experts!
Crystal's education and training include:
M.A. in Communicative Disorders (California State University Los Angeles)
M.Ed. in Education (Emphasis in Language/Literacy) (San Diego State University)
B.A. in Communicative Disorders (California State University Northridge)
Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
Master IEP Coach Certificate
SELAS (Special Education Law & Advocacy Series) Course Completion (University of San Diego)
Member of COPPA (Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Inc.)
Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist
Since opening SAAG in 2016, Crystal has continued to broaden her support of the Autism and neurodiverse community through writing books, speaking locally/nationally/internationally, as well as hosting the Thriving Autism Families podcast. When Crystal is not passionately supporting families and community members, you can find her reading, exercising, gardening, or enjoying non-technology time with her husband and two daughters.
